Heritage of Quality
The Amana Colonies were built on tradition and quality, by people who believed in hard work and excellent craftsmanship. The early settlers worked hard – quarrying their own sandstone, making their own brick, and cutting timber for the buildings that are still lived in and worked in today. They farmed the land, established woolen mills and calico mills for clothing and fabric, set up cabinet shops to build furniture and opened specialty shops to supply their daily needs.

This indelible mark of hard work and quality craftsmanship has been passed down through the generations. It can still be seen today in the products made by the furniture and clock factories, woolen mill, and shops of the Amana Colonies.

See Amana Colonies artisans at work when they open their studios during the Colony Artisans' Studio Tour held September 15-17 , 2006.
