Recycling in Yellow Bins

  1. Recycling bins are available at City Hall, there is no charge. However, if you should move, please return the bins to City Hall. If not returned, a $15 charge will be assessed to your final water bill. If the yellow bin is lost or stolen, there is a $15 fee. NO STICKER IS NEEDED for this bin.

  2. Newspaper, Magazines, Phone Books, Junk Mail, Newsprint with glossy inserts left in, Office Paper, Computer Paper, Chipboard (cereal boxes, etc.) liners removed and flattened: place in a separate sack or in the bottom of the recycling bin.

  3. Tin cans: Cleaned, remove label and both ends of can, flatten and put lid in the center of can. Place in separate sack in recycle bin.

  4. Clear Glass: Clean, throw lids in regular garbage. Place in separate sack in recycle bin. Do not need to remove paper. No Pyrex, window glass, mirrors, light bulbs, dishes, glasses, or flower pots. Colored glass must be taken to a drop site.

  5. Plastic containers #1 through 7. Clean and flattened. Place in separate sack in bin. All lids throw in regular garbage.

  6. Cardboard boxes: Flatten and place under yellow recycling bin. The recycling truck will pick them up.

    The City of Coralville will have Mayor's Clean-Up Days two times a year: Spring and Fall. The dates will be announced. Anything too large for bags (mattresses, couches, etc.) are included. No charge.

    Appliances: Refrigerators, stoves or any major appliance, will be picked up the last consecutive Thursday and Friday of each month. There is a charge of $16 per item which will be added to your water bill. Call the Streets Department (351-6154) or the Hot Line (351-7999) to arrange curbside pickup.
