Duties:

            The Solid Waste Management Planning Division is the newest JCCOG program area, formed in 1990.  The primary function of this division is to assist JCCOG member agencies in developing strategies for addressing solid waste issues. These issues include state mandated landfill regulations, recycling, hazardous waste disposal, and waste reduction.

            Activities of the division include assisting municipalities with waste reduction, recycling, and education programs.  Grant application and administration services are provided as needed.  The division assists in implementa-tion of the East Central Iowa Council of Governments (ECICOG) regional solid waste management plan. The Solid Waste Management Planning Coordinator assists the Iowa City Landfill Superintendent in implementing landfill programs.
