• Paint
UNWANTED PAINT DISPOSAL: Paint contains chemicals such
as solvents and metals that can damage the environment, especially water
supplies. Unwanted paint may be disposed of in the following ways:
1. Do not pour paint down the drain or throw it in the trash
in its liquid form.
2. Small amounts of both water and oil-based paint can be dried
in their containers or spread on cardboard lined with newspapers and left
to air dry in a well-ventilated area away from ignition sources.
When dried, you may throw it away with your garbage.
3. If paint has been separated and cannot be mixed, place the
liquids into a small amount of absorbent material, such as a clay-based
kitty-litter or shredded newspaper in a cardboard box. Let the material
air dry in a well-ventilated area away from ignition sources, preferably
outside. The sludge left at the bottom of the can may be left to
air dry in the can in a well-ventilated area. Once both the sludge
and absorbent material are dried, they can be sent to the landfill with
your garbage.
