Duties:

The Human Services Planning Division assists JCCOG members with all aspects of planning and coordination for         human services.  The Division provides budgetary, statistical and programmatic analyses to local decision makers to assist them in making sound funding and policy judgments related to human services.  The Human Services Coordinator works closely with local not-for-profit agencies, the Department of Human Services, and United Way to avoid duplication of effort and to ensure that programs are cost effective while meeting the needs of the community.

The Division is responsible for preparing and distributing the JCCOG JOHNSON COUNTY SERVICES DIRECTORY, now in its tenth edition.  This 300+ page directory of local programs facilitates appropriate client referrals and promotes community understanding of local programs.  The Division also helps local service providers to secure state, federal and grant funding for necessary programs that are beyond the limits of available local funding.

A major responsibility of the Division is coordinating all aspects of the annual Coralville/Iowa City/Johnson County/United Way joint funding process for human service agencies.  This project integrates the decision making of the major local funders of human services by offering: a combined format for requests from any of the four funding bodies, a series of hearings for agency presentations to the funders, and a forum for discussions among the funders of all issues related to human services.  While each body retains autonomy regarding its support for human service programs, the cooperation among the funders in reaching those decisions results in the highest possible quality of service while limiting program costs.
